Dr. Mekki is currently the Director of Innovation and Operations at Design for Lean, an independent consulting firm specializing in helping organizations to drive results by leading projects, coaching and training teams to increase first-pass yields, and reduce non-value added activities.

Brings over 25 years of experience in diverse areas of Device Product Development, Process Development, Risk Management, Quality Engineering, Quality Control, and Project Management focusing on continuous improvements.

Works with the Food and Beverage Processing, Biopharmaceuticals combination products, Class II and III medical devices and has an extensive automotive systems background.

Dr. Mekki has engineered and launched products with significant exposure working in cross functional teams applying concurrent engineering principles. Khalid coauthored the first published book on Medical device Design for Six Sigma in April of 2008.

Dr Mekki led initiatives in developing and deploying new processes utilizing Operational Excellence tools and techniques across multiple company functions also advised product development teams to successfully achieve a Design for Six-Sigma (DFSS) design quality.

Publications: Medical Devices Design For Six Sigma

Medical Devices Design For Six Sigma, we detail how to integrate appropriate design methodologies upfront in the device design process to address:

  • Any design issues that result from poor quality and design engineering practices.
  • Any operational issues as a result of factors beyond the control of designer called noise factors These factors are responsible for causing the device functions or the process to deviate from target/expected values.
  • How to shorten lead-times, cut development and manufacturing costs, lower total life cycle cost, and improve the quality of the medical devices to a Six-Sigma quality level

Medical Devices Design For Six Sigma, provides comprehensive and complete process with real-world examples that:

  • Reviews concept and design methods such as Pugh concept selection, QFD methodology, Robust Design method, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), optimization techniques like Design of Experiment (DOE); and Response Surface Methodology.
  • Provides a detailed, step-by-step implementation for each Design For Six Sigma tool/technique.
  • Covers the structural, organizational, and technical deployment of DFSS within the medical device industry.
  • Presents a global prospective of medical device regulations.

Medical Devices Design For Six Sigma, provide both a roadmap and a toolbox with a hands-on approach for medical devices product development practitioners, Lean Six Sigma trainees and trainers, middle management, engineering team leaders, quality engineers and quality consultants.
